VocabRise is a language-learning app that generates stories using AI. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
We do not require you to create an account or sign in. Specifically:
Your learning data — stories, vocabulary, word progress, usage history, and settings — is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data is not accessible to us and is removed if you delete the app.
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, your learning data may be automatically synced across your Apple devices via Apple's CloudKit service. This sync is managed entirely by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. You can disable iCloud sync for VocabRise in your device's iCloud settings. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
When you generate a story, look up a word, or request a translation, the app sends the following to our backend server for processing:
We do not log, store, or associate this data with any user identity. There are no user accounts, sessions, or identifiers sent with these requests.
VocabRise offers an optional feature to scan book pages using your device's camera or photo library. When you use this feature:
Camera access requires your explicit permission. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device's Settings.
OpenAI: We use OpenAI's API to generate stories, translations, and word explanations. The text and language preferences sent for generation are processed by OpenAI in accordance with their API data usage policy. OpenAI does not use API inputs to train their models.
Apple (iCloud): If iCloud is enabled, your learning data may sync via Apple's CloudKit, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Apple (In-App Purchases): If you choose to subscribe to VocabRise Pro, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, process, or have access to any payment information. All billing is managed by Apple under their terms of service.
Our server does not store any user data permanently. Translations and word details may be cached temporarily on the server to improve response times, but these caches contain only linguistic data (words and their translations) with no user-identifying information attached.
All communication between the app and our server is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Access to our backend API is protected by an authentication token.
VocabRise does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The app does not require registration and collects no personal data from any user, regardless of age.
Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no personal data for us to delete, export, or modify. All your learning data is stored locally on your device (and optionally in your iCloud account), and you have full control over it. You can delete all app data by uninstalling VocabRise.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
